Saturday 23rd April 2016 : Balzan fought hard to get something from this game as in the second half they came from behind to equalise but a late goal by Michael Mifsud gave Valletta the three points they needed in order to put them back on track for winning the Championship.
Valletta showed their intentions as from the kick-off and were the more creative at the beginning of the first half. On the 6th minute Balzan goalkeeper Ivan Janjusevic turned into a corner, with a good save, an attempt from a distance by Claudio Pani.
Valletta managed to take the lead on the 14th minute when, following a short clearance by a defender, unmarked FEDERICO FALCONE took the loose ball and managed to beat Balzan goalkeeper Ivan Janjusevic with a powerful drive from just outside the box.
On the 33rd minute goalkeeper Henry Bonello made a good save over a direct free-kick taken by Pedro Calcado.
Valletta had a great chance to increase their lead when Federico Falcone, after being set by Rafael Ledesma, shot high from close range.
In the second half Alan Da Silva Souza was replaced by Bojan Kaljevic giving Balzan more strength up in front.
On the 54th minute, from an ideal position, Bojan Kaljevic headed incredibly high an insidious cross sent from the right side by Justin Grioli.
A minute later, on the other side, a central shot by Michael Mifsud was neutralised without difficulty by goalkeeper Janjusevic.
As time passed by Balzan showed great determination and on the 59th minute they managed to equalise when, following a through pass by Pedro Calcado, BOJAN KALJEVIC took advantage of an indecision between a defender and goalkeeper Bonello and tapped the ball into an empty net.
Valletta regained the lead in the 81st minute when, in a fast break, MICHAEL MIFSUD received a calibrated through pass from Federico Falcone, advanced to the left past a couple of defenders and managed to beat goalkeeper Janjusevic with a low shot from just inside the area.
