Bojan Kaljevic handed the sixth consecutive win to Balzan, in his comeback after recovering from a long injury

14th February 2016 : Balzan deserved to win this direct clash with Floriana, maintaining their hopes of participating in European competitions for the second time. The highlight of this game was the comeback of their player Bojan Kaljevic as a substitute after recovering from a long injury and his scoring the important goal, giving a 1 – 0 win to Balzan.

The first half was balanced with both teams creating a couple of scoring chances. On the 13th minute Pedro Calcado went close with a long-range free-kick which scraped the Floriana post.

On the other side, on the 23rd minute Balzan goalkeeper Ivan Janjusevic made a good save on Mario Fontanella’s half-volley.

Three minutes later, Alfred Effiong managed to beat the offside trap and made his way into the box but he hesitated in front of the Floriana goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona, who rushed out to avoid the danger.

On the half hour, Mario Fontanella set up Matteo Piciollo whose curling shot was punched away by Ivan Janjusevic.

on the 40th minute, Balzan also had a great chance when, off a Alan Da Silva Souza’s free-kick, Alexandar Vujacic’s effort was deflected away by the goalkeeper for a corner.

In the second half Balzan came out better.  On the 52nd minute, midfielder Paul Fenech went close with a powerful shot that finished just over the crossbar.

Two minutes later, Nicolas Chiesa served Mauricio Villa who saw his shot skimming off a defender, with the ball finishing over the bar.

On the hour, Vujacic wasted a great chance to put Balzan ahead as he shot wide, after being set by an inviting cross from the right by Calcado.

Balzan gained control of the game but missed a couple of good chances. On two consecutive chances Calleja Cremona denied Effiong and saved well a Calcado’s free-kick.

Midway into the second half, Vujacic missed again as he failed to connect a Calcado’s cross when being in a good position to score.

On the 70th minute, Alexandar Vujacic made his way to Bojan Kaljevic, making his first appearance this season after a long serious injury.

This was the turning point of the game as, after only 8 minutes on the pitch, BOJAN KALJEVIC sent a strong header into the corner of net, after connecting an Alfred Effiong’s cross.

In the stoppage time, Balzan could have scored again but a Paul Fenech’s attempt  was turned into a corner by Calleja Cremona.
