BALZAN QUALIFIED TO PLAY IN THE FOURTH ROUND OF THE FA TROPHY AFTER BEATING FGURA UNITED 2 – 1.

Wednesday 9th December 2015 :  In a third round FA Trophy game, played at the Centenary Stadium, Balzan had a hard time to defeat Fgura with the score of 2 – 1. Balzan will now be facing Melita in the fourth round of this competition.

In the first half, Balzan took the initiative and went straight on the attack but Fgura defended well and opted to operate with fast counter attacks. They made it difficult for Balzan to penetrate but as time passed by Balzan increased there efforts. On the 34th minute Balzan opened the score when LYDON MICALLEF, after a solo effort, managed to beat goalkeeper Brandon Bartolo with a low shot.

Two minutes into the second half Balzan doubled the score when, after being served, GODWIN MENSHA rushed into the box, dribbling past a couple of defenders and tried his luck with a low shot beating Bartolo, with the ball hitting the foot of post before finishing home. On the 65th minute, Fgura pulled one back when STEEVEN ESCOBAR took advantage of a short clearance by a defender and managed to find the net, despite being tackled by an opponent. The game intensified and two minutes later a shot by Mensha finished just over the crossbar. On the 85th minute, Balzan could have increased the score but goalkeeper Bartolo denied Justin Grioli by turning his insidious direct free-kick into a corner, with a superb save.
