Saturday 19th December 2015 : In their last game of the year 2015, Balzan disappointed again their supporters as they failed to transform the couple of opportunities that came their way. They only managed to take a point out of this game against Pembroke A.
For this game Balzan had to do away without the strikers Bojan Kaljevic and Aleksandar Vujacic, still missing because of long injuries, while Pembroke lacked Leighton Grech also injured.
Godwin Mensha had his first try at goal on the 18th minute but goalkeeper Mario Muscat saved without difficulty. The first good chance to report came on the 22nd minute from Pembroke when Gustavo Villalobos’s cross shot was deflected to a corner by goalkeeper Christian Cassar, aided by the post. The rest of the first half was balanced and monotonous with very few chances for both teams.
In the second half, Balzan had a couple of chances to break the deadlock with Nigerian forward Godwin Mensha loosing some glorious opportunities. In fact, on the 74th minute, Mensha missed a good opportunity to put his team in front as he failed to connect a pass by Alfred Effiong. Mensha was out of luck again two minutes later, when following a Justin Grioli’s delivery his header finished wide. On the 80th minute Mensha squandered another good opportunity when he finished wide after being set up by Lydon Micallef. Six minutes from time. Mensha sent an insidious cross but the towering substitute striker Ryan Darmanin failed to connect with the ball.
