Balzan defeated Naxxar L with a comfortable win of 8 – 0

12th March 2016 : Balzan kept the pace with the top three by heavily defeating Naxxar Lions with a score of 8 – 0. For this game missing for Balzan were injured Ryan Fenech and suspended Samir Arab and Dylan Grima, while Ryan Grech and Andrew Scicluna were missing for Naxxar L.

The first chance came to score came on the 11th minute to Naxxar when David Fenech advanced and tried his luck but Ivan Janusevic saved without difficulty.

On the 13th minute goalkeeper Luke Pecorella mad a good save over an attempt by Lydon Micallef. Balzan had another good chance a few seconds later when, with the goalkeeper beaten, Eduardo Vellicillo Casado was providential to clear off the line .

Although Balzan had several other chances to score, they had to wait till the 37th minute to take the lead.  Paul Fenech crossed the ball towards ALFRED EFFIONG and, after dribbling past a couple of defenders, he managed to beat goalkeeper Pecorella with a fine shot.

In the 42nd minute, Paul Fenech sent a long ball into Alfred Effiong’s path who avoided the despairing challenge of the goalkeeper but he brought down the striker down in the box, with the referee awarding Balzan a penalty and sending Pecorella off the pitch. PEDRO CALCADO transformed by beating substitute goalkeeper Alberto Gallinetta for a 2-0 half-time lead.

In the second half there was only one team on the pitch as Naxxar L were unable to keep up with the pace of the Balzan clan.

Two minutes into the second half Balzan increased the score, when Justin Grioli set Bojan Kaljevic who in turn served LYDON MICALLEF to hit home from an ideal position .

On the hour Balzan extended their lead again with a swift attack. Following an assist by Pedro, ALEKSANDAR VUJACIC flicked the ball home from close range.

In less than a minute Balzan made it 5 – 0 when, on the run, ALFRED EFFIONG sent a  powerful shot from outside the box which finished into the back of the net.

Naxxar L were unable to react and Balzan kept marching on. On the 70th minute LYDON MICALLEF connected a through ball from substitute Alan Souza da Silva, rounded the goalkeeper and dribbled past a defender, before finishing home into an empty net.

On the 74th minute, Balzan struck their seventh goal. Elkin Serrano Valero sent a long pass to ALEKSANDAR VUJACIC who managed to beat the goalkeeper with a powerful shot.

In the 77th minute, the Aleksandar Vujacic served LYDON MICALLEF to complete his hat-trick with an easy tap-in, sealing the result at 8 – 0.
