BALZAN CLIMB TO FOURTH PLACE OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE

27th January 2016 – Balzan moved fourth in the BOV Premier League, one point ahead of Floriana FC and four ahead of Tarxien Rainbows FC as they had a comfortable win of 5 – 0 over Qormi.

Balzan had to do without suspended Justin Grioli and injured Bojan Kaljevic but welcomed back Paul Fenech. On the other side Qormi had Ousmane Sidibe, Ryan Micallef, Clifford Gauci, Emerson Vella and Terence Vella missing.

Balzan showed their intentions as from the kick-off while Qormi opted to defend throughout the game. On the 23rd minute Balzan opened the score when ALFRED EFFIONG headed the ball home from close range following a cross by Alan da Silva Souza.

The second half remain on the same pattern and had it not been for the good performance of goalkeeper Jean Matthias Vella the score could have been bigger.

Three minutes into the second half, Balzan doubled the score when, off another cross by Alan da Silva, LYDON MICALLEF hit home from close range.

On the 55th minute, Balzan were awarded a penalty after Steve Bezzina was brought down inside the area. From the penalty spot, ALAN DA SILVA SOUSA did not fail to convert, making it 3-0.

On the 61st minute, off a good move by Alfred Effiong on the right flank, PEDRO DOS SANTOS CALCADO had no problem to finish home into an empty net.

Substitute ALEKSANDAR VUJACIC sealed the issue when on the 70th minute he scored the fifth goal, following a shot by Alan da Silva Souza.
