9th January 2016 : Despite having to play with ten men for more than half-an-hour, Balzan managed to win with a 4-1 score over Mosta, keeping pace with the top four teams.

The newly registered Balzan players Paul Fenech and Pedro dos Santos Calcado were included in the starting  line-up while Alan Da Silva Souza made his debut in the 68th minute. Mosta, on the other hand, had new signing Lyden Micallef making his debut but lacked suspended Onyekachi Okonkwo and Edin Murga.

As from the first minute of the first half Balzan made their intentions clear. They decided to put everything on the attack. Balzan took the lead on the 10th minute when an effort by Dylan Grima was partially saved by goalkeeper Omar Borg, LYDON MICALLEF took the rebound and placed the ball in the back of the net.

Mosta reacted and gradually they started to get more into the picture . On the 26th minute James Brincat sent an insidious cross into the path of Saviour Fidelis who failed to connect in front of an empty net.

However on the 35th minute, Balzan doubled the score thanks to ALFRED EFFIONG who, after being served by Paul Fenech from the right, slammed the ball home past Omar Borg from close range.

In the second half Mosta came our better and pushed everything forward in a bid to narrow the gap. Their effort gave fruit as on the 52nd minute they pulled a goal back, when off a cross by Adrian Borg, Tyrone Farrugia headed the ball into JAMES BRINCAT’s path whose powerful volley gave Christian Cassar no chance.

To make matters worse for Balzan, on the 62nd minute Paul Fenech was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a reckless tackle on Kyle Frendo .

With the numerical superiority Mosta increased their efforts and on the 64th minute Saviour Fidelis lost a good chance as, after beating the office trap, he was denied by onrushing goalkeeper Christian Cassar.

However, on the 74th minute, Balzan ended their opponents’ hopes as they managed to increase the lead through RYAN FENECH whose long-distance effort beat Mosta goalkeeper Omar Borg.

With this goal Mosta were shocked and Balzan kept pressing . They went on to add the fourth goal, when on the 89th minute substitute ALAN DA SILA SOUZA took advantage of a blunder in midfield, dribbled past a couple of defenders and hit low giving Omar Borg no chance .
