Saturday 19th December 2015 : In their last game of the year 2015, Balzan disappointed again their supporters as they failed to transform the couple of opportunities that came their way. They only managed to take a point out of this game against Pembroke A.

For this game Balzan had to do away without the strikers Bojan Kaljevic and Aleksandar Vujacic, still missing because of long injuries, while Pembroke lacked Leighton Grech also injured.

Godwin Mensha had his first try at goal on the 18th minute but goalkeeper Mario Muscat saved without difficulty. The first good chance to report came on the 22nd minute from Pembroke when Gustavo Villalobos’s cross shot was deflected to a corner by goalkeeper Christian Cassar, aided by the post. The rest of the first half was balanced and monotonous with very few chances for both teams.

In the second half, Balzan had a couple of chances to break the deadlock with Nigerian forward Godwin Mensha loosing some glorious opportunities. In fact, on the 74th minute, Mensha missed a good opportunity to put his team in front as he failed to connect a pass by Alfred Effiong. Mensha was out of luck again two minutes later, when following a Justin Grioli’s delivery his header finished wide. On the 80th minute Mensha squandered another good opportunity when he finished wide after being set up by Lydon Micallef. Six minutes from time. Mensha sent an insidious cross but the towering substitute striker Ryan Darmanin failed to connect with the ball. A minute from time, Mensha was unlucky when his powerful shot his effort struck the base of the far post, after being deflected by the goalkeeper

Two goals late in the first half were enough to give Valletta a win against Balzan, beating them 2 – 1. At the end of the match, Balzan could have levelled matters, if it was not for the decision of the referee to deny them from a sure penalty.

Balzan made three changes from the team which lost against Tarxien as Elkin Serrano, Christian Cassar and Lydon Micallef replaced Dylan Grima, Valerio Senatore and Steven Bezzina. On the other hand, Valletta started with the same eleven players of the game against Birkirkara.

In the first half Valletta came out searching for an early goal but Balzan defended well and opted to operate with fast counterattacks by Godwin Mensha and Alfred Effiong in front. Valletta took the lead on the 36th minute, when Uchenna Umeh served CLAUDIO PANI, who in turn gave no chance to goalkeeper Christian Cassar with his powerful shot . Balzan reacted but were not able to take the chances that came their way. Valletta continued pressing and on the 43rd minute they doubled the score thanks to ABDELKARIM NAFTI whose powerful shot from outside the box ended in the top left corner.

In the second half, the game remained lively with Balzan increasing their efforts. Fifteen minutes from time, Balzan played their last card when they introduced Ryan Fenech, coming from a long injury, to give more power to their midfield. Balzan pulled one back on the 77th minute when off a cross by Clive Brincat from the left, Godwin Mensha’s header was connected with another header by Ryan Darmanin and finally ALFRED EFFIONG headed the ball home, after hitting the post. In the added time Balzan protested for a penalty when Alfred Effiong was floored by a defender as he dashed into the box, but the referee waved play on.

Sunday 6th December 2015 : Tarxien Rainbows managed to beat Balzan, scoring three goals in the second half. Now they moved only 2 points behind Balzan, Birkirkara and Floriana who share the third place on 26 point

Balzan lacked Elkin Serrano Valero who was suspended and Bojan Kaljevic still injured, while Ryan Fenech returned for them on the bench. On the other hand, Tarxien had Ebiabowei Baker and Brandon Muscat were ruled out through suspension.

In the first half most of the play was held in mid-field, where both teams had only a couple of attempts to goal but none of the team were able to open the score .

On the 7th minute of the second  half, Tarxien managed to break the deadlock  when off a corner from the left by Ayrton Azzopardi, DANIEL ZERAFA headed home past goalkeeper Valerio Senatore.

Tarxien doubled the score on 68th minute when LUKE MONTEBELLO received a through pass on the right and advanced into the area before slotting the ball past Senatore.

Seven minutes from time, Tarxien increased the score to 3 – 0 when  Lucky Omeruo was brought down inside the area by Samir Arab and referee Sandro Spiteri ordered a penalty. From the penalty spot, ALEX DA PAIXAO ALVES did not fail to convert.

Balzan eased past Naxxar Lions with a score of 4 – 2

Tuesday 1st December 2015 : Balzan returned to winning ways as they beat with ease Naxxar Lions 4 – 2.

Balzan took the lead on 23 minutes when from a free-kick on the left taken by Terence Agius, GODWIN MENSHA flicked the ball past goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi.

Naxxar failed to react and five minutes later Azzopardi saved well a Steve Bezzina’s long range shot.

On 37 minutes, Balzan doubled their lead, when Godwin Mensha served ALFRED EFFIONG who in turn dribbled past goalkeeper Azzopardi before firing the ball into an empty net.

Naxxar came out better in the second and on the 50th minute Balzan’s goalkeeper Christian Cassar saved into a corned a powerful shot by Thomas Sarina.

However, their hopes of getting back into the match faded away on the 67th minute when, in a swift break, Godwin Mensha stormed into the area, serving ALFRED EFFIONG Effiong at the far post who in turn headed the ball into the back of the net.

Naxxar pulled one back four minutes later when, following a corner from the left by Daren Falzon, DEMBA TOURE flicked the ball past Christian Cassar.

But on the 67th minute Balzan restored their three-goal lead when Godwin Mensha filtrated on the right and his insidious cross was pushed away by goalkeeper Azzopardi into LYDON MICALLEF’s  path, who had no problems heading the ball into the net.

Three minutes from time, Naxxar reduced the score again when in a bid to clear the ball, off a Daren Falzon’s cross, Steve Bezzina obstructed his goalkeeper Christian Cassar and inadvertently headed the ball into his own net.
